Program Goals

We believe that the education of your child should be the cooperative responsibility of his/her home and school. By working closely with you,
we will provide the consistency needed to develop security and independence in your child. We strive to provide a nurturing, stimulating
atmosphere in which your child will grow emotionally, socially, physically and creatively, as well as academically. Your child is in the process of
creating the adult he/she will become. Our program is devoted to encouraging the self-esteem, self-confidence and self-motivation necessary
for this growth.

The Montessori Method

Montessori is a method of education developed in the late 1800's by Dr. Maria Montessori which cultivates the child's own desire to learn.
The children are allowed to move freely about the classroom in a non-competitive atmosphere, selecting the materials that interests them.
They learn a set of "ground rules" which stress the importance of respect for others and their feelings, respect for the materials as well as
courtesy and social graces. The children must adhere to these rules if they wish to work in the classroom. This is the "freedom within limits"
aspect of the Montessori classroom. The Montessori curriculum allows each child to grow at his/her own pace, never pushed ahead or held back
from learning what he/she is ready for. In this way, children develop an early enthusiasm for learning which influences their attitudes toward
school for the rest of their lives.

Discipline Policy

It is our policy to use positive forms of discipline which encourage self-control, self-direction and cooperation. At no time will
any staff member use verbal or physical punishment as a means of discipline. A Montessori classroom requires a certain level of self-discipline
from each child. Although thy are allowed to move about freely in the classroom, the children are expected to follow the "ground rules" dealing
with respect for others as well as control of themselves.

Health and Medications

We are required by law to obtain and keep on file a record of immunization for each child, showing a minimum of one dose of each immunizing
agent. This information may be reported on the Health Appraisal Form and returned to us before the first day of attendance. Within the first
month of attendance, the back of the form must be signed by a licensed physician, stating that there are no restrictions to your child's activities
while in our care. Before your child may be left in our care, we must also have on file a Child Information Card, giving us permission to seek emergency
treatment should there ever be a need. All spaces on this card must be filled in or have a line drawn through them.
Also, please note: Your child will be released ONLY to those persons listed on this card as having permission to take him from our care.

The following rules will help protect the health of all children:

1. If your child shows signs of illness such as vomiting, sore throat, fever and/or cough, we ask that you keep him/her home.
2. Parents of children who come to school sick will be contacted and asked to take their child home.

In order for medication to be administered to your child while in our care, the following rules apply:

1. A consent form needs to be signed for each medication.
2. Prescription medications must have the original label, indicating the child's name, physician's name and the dosage and strength of the medication.

Nutrition Policy

We provide a nutritious snack during both the morning and afternoon each day. We serve snacks containing little or no sugar. A snack schedule
is posted each Monday, listing the snacks planned for that week.
Birthdays are celebrated at school with a special snack, usually provided by the parents of the "birthday person". Special days such as birthdays,
parties, etc are usually the only exceptions to our "low sugar" policy.

Show and Tell

Thursdays and Fridays are "Show and Tell" days at our school. There is usually a theme for the week, such as a certain beginning sound or a color.
Show and tell days are the only days toys are allowed at school. Exception - "Nap buddies" are allowed for nap time, but must stay in the cubbies
until it is time for nap.
